Are You Surviving or Thriving?
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and do so with some passion some compassion, some humour, and some style.” (Maya Angelou).
There is no doubt that Maya Angelou makes magic with words, but more than that, her words are never empty. Her words make you think about things, they are like tiny little triggers inspiring you to take a deeper look at yourself and your life.
Although most of the time you can hear the word mission in the context of business or organisation, then having one for your life does make all the sense. A personal mission statement can work as a compass for your life, it can help you to set the direction but also to become clear about the way you want to live your life in general.
Maya Angelou chose to live “thriving” instead of just “surviving”, what about you? Are you surviving or thriving? [I am not speaking here about the true survival fight which many people face at any given time.] I am speaking about the way one lives its life, about the awareness and the intentions.
It is so comfortable to surrender to the life as it is. It is so comfortable to go with the flow and to react to the life circumstances as they show up. Very often one simply gets too tired and overwhelmed with the daily life. The demands of family and parenthood, the professional challenges, the internal and external expectations, the ongoing world events and so on. Well the list of things to worry about sure is long for all.
It is so easy to give up on wanting more. It is easy to settle.
Yet, I am here to tell you that you should not settle for what is. You should go for what you truly desire to experience in your life. Do not give up!
You are worthy to experience joy and peace and fulfilment in your life. As everything in your life starts with you, the better care you take of yourself, the better care you will be able to take of the others around. Dare to dream, dare to start taking action. Dare to inspire others.
There is no doubt that life has seasons and sometimes the best thing you can do is to just surrender and to be and to make it to the end of the day. Be wise to know when it is time to move on. Do not stay stuck.
To thrive in life can mean many things to different people. Take time to understand what would thriving in life look like for you. Once you know that, go get it!
- Find ways to gain self-awareness about where are you now and what you would like to see more of in your life.
- Write down your mission and your bigger vision.
- Start taking intentional and inspired action. One choise or an action at a time.
You are worthy.
